N Smith Fine Art
Nancy Smith describes her style as "Romantic Impressionism." Her paintings invoke an invitation for the viewer to step into her landscapes. She observes the light to paint the beauty of the West's open spaces using primarily rich earth colors and visible brush strokes. Smith's larger paintings are completed in studio using plein air field studies and photographs for reference.
Prior to fine art Nancy Smith worked as a graphic designer and in the natural food industry's product development. Her studies include a fine arts degree and life long private study. Curious by nature she is passionate about learning. Each day she finds herself observing nature as if for the first time. This keeps her work exciting and fresh. Her love of color and mixing of paint has led to much experimentation and the discovery of what works. While learning the art of painting requires considerable effort and steadfastness she is happy to be experiencing the joy and confidence that follows.
She has been influenced by Ilene Gienger-Stanfield, Lori Putnam, Peggi Kroll Roberts, Quang Ho, Kevin MacPherson, Richard Schmid, Kim English, Randall Sexton, Dan McCaw and
Edgar Payne.
Collectors and art lovers respond to her painterly expression of local scenes as well as, her landscapes with wildlife and livestock. Nancy Smith's work has been exhibited in Oregon, Oklahoma, Colorado, California and the Monterey Art Museum. She is a member of the American Impressionist Society.
